Barr Trail Mountain Race July 17, 2011

The Barr Trail Mountain race is an out and back or you could call it an up and down, it covers the first 6.3 miles of the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon trail.

The start is on Ruxton Avenue by the COG railway depot elevation 6,570'. Running 6.3 miles up the Barr Trail gaining 3,630' turn around at Barr Camp 10,200'. then head back down Barr Trail to Hydro Street where they will turn left and up with the finish being in the pullout to the right for a total of 12.575 miles

From Hydro Street to No Name Creek is 3 miles with an elevation
gain of 2,150' for an average percent grade of 13.4%.
From No Name Creek to Barr Camp is about 3.3 miles with an
elevation gain of 1,450' for an average percent grade of 8.3%

The aid stations were maned by high school cross country and track teams, each station having its own theme At the finish line runners vote for their favorite aid station with the winning school getting the most money for their school’s running program and an automatic spot in the following year’s challenge. Second through 5th will be awarded cash for their programs as well. In all $6,000 is awarded to the five schools bringing the 10 year total to $60,000!
