August 27, 2009 Day 5 23.5 miles
.
The 5th day of the 2009 GORE-TEX TransRockies Run is another long day out on the trails. Covering 23.5 miles with nearly 4500 feet of climbing, the runners face possibly their longest day or running of the race. They cross two passes above 11,500 feet and traverse the spectacular China Wall on the backside of Vail Mountain before descending steeply to finish in the village. In 2007, runners were snowed on during this stage but the forecast is far more benign in 2009.

August 26,2009 Day 4
Stage 4 of the 2009 TransRockies was on the short and sharp end of the spectrum with a steep and brutal 2500 ft climb up from Camp Hale to Horn silver Summit followed by a steep descent straight back down ending in the small town of Red Cliff. Though the climb was tough, the views from the top of the ridge are among the best in the Colorado Rockies and many runners no doubt will fill their scrapbooks with photos of the 360 degree vista that included views of famous 14ers like Mount of the Holy Cross, Mount Elbert and Mount Massive.

Stage 3 of the 2009 GORE-TEX TransRockies Run takes the field from Leadville across the Continental Divide at Tennessee Pass then through high alpine meadows and over another smaller summit before a rolling gradual descent to Camp Hale, former training ground of the legendary 10th Mountain Division. The 3000 feet of climbing is spread out overt nearly a full marathon distance and the average elevation of over 10,000 feet will no doubt be a factor for athletes from Sea Level still acclimating to the thin air.
Erika and Don the move up from 14th to 10th place on day two.
