Starting at
14,264 foot Mt. Evans 14.5 miles away and four thousand
vertical feet elevation gain, much of it above tree line.
And the great unknown factor
The Weather???
The weather was great at the start but we were told that
the fog was so thick at the top you could not see across
the road and the race could be stopped at the nine mile
mark, they would let us know at the six mile aid station.
As we came out of the trees into the wind with the
temperature dropping I was so glad I came prepared.
At the six mile aid station we found out the race was to go to the top.
Some were happy J
Seeing the clouds draped over the top of the
mountain made me wonder what was ahead.
We couldn’t see the top for the clouds it didn't look good.
The runner right in front of me disappeared into the fog never to be seen again.
I took just enough time to take one last picture and get off the top.
Joanna (center) and I finished the last half mile together and she
finished almost an hour ahead of her goal.
With her friends cheering her on she finished strong.
Great job JoannaJ!
